Instant Dan Dan Noodles

Who doesn’t like quick recipes that don't compromise taste? May it be a midnight fix or stuck with a busy schedule. This easy and delicious dan dan noodle recipe is an awesome addition to your library. Spicy, rich with a nutty and naturally sweet taste this noodle satisfies the taste buds and belly in minutes.

Ingredients:
1 pack spicy instant noodle
2 cups water
3 tbsp peanut butter
2 tbsp preserved vegetables
1 tbsp crushed peanuts
1 tbsp spring onion

Method:

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add in noodles and boil until the noodles are slightly loose (not soft).

  2. Add peanut butter, preserved vegetables, seasoning packets and quickly mix well. Make sure peanut butter is well dissolved. Top crushed peanuts and spring onion before serving. 

Notes:

  • Depending on your adventurous taste buds, using spicier noodles - fire noodles - makes this recipe even more exciting.

  • Though this recipe uses 2 cups of water to boil noodles. When serving, use only a few ladle full. Dan dan noodles are served with less soup - consider it a soupy sauce. 

  • Preserved vegetables, Zha Cai, is a type of pickled vegetable - it’s spicy, sour and salty. These delicious preserved vegetables are usually an additional ingredient to enhance a dish taste. Example - additions to plain congee, soups and the deliciously famous Sichuan Dan Dan Noodles. Can be found as small packets in all Chinese supermarkets.

What’s Dan Dan Noodles? The delicious dan dan noodles (mian) comes from the Sichuan region of China. Depending on the restaurant, the spiciness level may vary from a nice spicy kick to “I want another bite but I can’t survive it . . . I need more tissue”.

No matter what the spicy level, the combination of the main ingredients used makes this extremely mouth wateringly memorable. Preserved vegetables for a richer flavour, peanut butter (or sesame paste) for an additional sweet nutty taste. You’ll definitely come back for more. 

This instant dan dan noodle has been our family’s favourite. One late evening while working on a high school project. Mrs. Yung was filling the house with this noodle’s sweet aroma. It was interesting, because mom never cooks instant noodles and it was surprisingly delicious. Ever since then, this tasty noodle has been a staple through my many all nighters during college.

材料:
即食辛辣麵1包
水2杯
花生醬3湯匙
榨菜絲2湯匙
花生碎1湯匙
蔥粒1湯匙

做法:

  1. 煮滾2杯水,加入辛辣麺,煮片刻用筷子拂散。

  2. 加花生醬,榨菜絲,及調味料攪勻,攪至花生醬全部溶,倒入碗內灑入花生碎,及蔥粒,即可供食。

註:

  • 根據您喜歡冒險的味蕾,使用更辣的麵條 - Fire Noodles - 使這個食譜更加令人興奮。

  • 雖然這個食譜使用 2 杯水煮麵條。 上菜時,只用幾勺。
